Designed by Patricia Urquiola, Azulej draws inspiration from traditional encaustic cement (cement-based) Victorian floor tiles with a modern take on ancient handcrafted majolica tiles.

Patricia Urquiola

“The Azulej collection evaluates the memory of the hydraulic cement by experimenting an innovative digital printing technique, which enables the production of a high diffusion product. The patterns deliberately combine different aesthetic languages: memories, geometrical schemes, floral design, all developed in a longitudinal and diagonal direction. The process has exponentially developed, and we have only managed to sketch some possible combinations… and now, it’s up to you.”

AN INNOVATIVE MIX & PATCH

Deliberately random, Azulej features 27 different patterns, including a mixture of geometric and floral designs with subtle neutral colours on the material in an irregular and natural way, seeping on the edges in homage to the handcrafted process.

Size: 20 x 20 cm

Surface: Matt

Variation: V4

Application: Wall + Floor

With latest cold digital printing technology, an environment respectful method, Azulej designs are printed onto the surface of the very durable and stain-resistant porcelain tiles. The muted palate and the nostalgic patterns combines to create a beautiful, sought-after range in 20 x 20 format.
